Summer 2023 Service Mission to Vietnam
In August 2023, VietCorps carried out our service mission to Vietnam. We visited an elementary school located in Son Tay, Vietnam, which is about one-hour drive away from Hanoi (Co Dong B Elementary School). We donated ten new laptop computers, over 1,000 books, and book shelves to the elementary school. We met and interacted with the students and teachers at the school.
During our trip, we also traveled to Central Vietnam and visited the Peaceful Bamboo Family, a vocational training center and living community for young adults with disabilities, located in Hue, Vietnam. We met with the director and other staff members of the center and learned about the center’s history and goal to assist individuals who are on the margin of society, including those with mental disabilities to live their lives with dignity. We spent some time interacting with the young individuals living at this center. We donated monetary gifts to the center.
In addition to our service mission work, our group also travelled to several famous destinations in Vietnam for some sight-seeing (we visited Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Hue, and Hoi An).
